Seichour is a small village located in the Kuba district, not far from the Caspian Sea.
Its rugs have, generally, high and soft pile.
The great glamour of this piece is partly due to its great colours.
Collectors have always considered greens and yellows, in abundance in this rug, as the rarest colours.
The field is scanned by five Saint Andrew’s crosses , the border has very typical Seichour frames: rosettes and a “running dog” on ivory background.
The rug is published in the catalogue “Shirwan and Kuba, Carpets of Eastern Caucasus”, Coen Gallery, 2004.
