This rare and fascinating carpet has a tribal origin. Afshar is the name of one of three tribes that occupied a territory of south-western Persia
The design is based on multicoloured vertical bands (a motif called mohrraamat) alternating with thin, blue frames.
The patterns are delicate and various, mainly based on botehs and floral geometrical motives.
