(China)
PEKING

Size: m. 2,65 x 1,86 - 8'8" x 6'2"
Age: beginning of XX century. About 1910.
Condition: perfect.

Most Chinese rugs have a central medallion as a focal point. This unusual piece has an overall pattern that is overlaid and interwoven with another repeated design. The delicate ton sur ton pattern (a variation of the cloud motif) is perfectly combined with the abstract geometry of the dragons' bodies, alternated by lotus flowers and bats in the centre. The whole look is of a rug of great freedom, rythm and sophistication.
