This rug is a superb double niche prayer. The peculiar shape of the mihrab is known as “keyhole” or stylized “head and shoulders”.
This design principle is closely related to the XVI century Anatolian prayer rugs called “Bellini”, after the painter Gentile Bellini (1429 ca- 1507) who depicted rugs with keyhole arches.
The border is also very interesting, dominated by a large band with “crab” patterns.
