SUMAK

Size: m. 2,90 x 1,65 - 9’6” x 5’5”
Age: second half of XIX century.
Condition: very good. Rug with No major restorations.

Among the various types of Sumaks the “eagle” is very rare and also one of the most dramatic.

The drawing is more common in the rugs from the Karabagh area called Tchelaberd or eagle Kasaks, or in their variation,  the so called Zeiwa.

In the field there are three “eagle medallions” surrounded by very charming nomadic motives. Among these it is possible to single out  animal patterns and two human figures, a man and a woman.

This particular may let us think of a carpet made for the occasion of a wedding.
The colours are marvellous: not only the vivid red tones but also the rare yellows and green, so much sought-after by collectors.
